TIPS FOR TUESDAY

Soothe That Cough and Sore Throat

Well, along with the many sweet prayers and well wishes this week as I have been healing from the flu, I also got this fantastic advice for a gargle to help sooth a sore throat.

Jenny, a blogging friend, sent this to me, and it is fantastic. So I wanted to share it all with you. Here is what she said:

"As a speech therapist, there are a few trade secrets I have picked up. One is how to fight a cough. It is very important for our patients with voice disorders.

One thing that will likely help is a personal steamer. It's a lot like sitting over a boiling pot on the stove, but you don't have to lean over the stove. They are about $25 at most drug stores.

Next is this gargle:
8 oz hot water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp honey (or corn syrup)

Gargle it as much as you can stand it. It will help clean the infection out of your throat and coat it with a layer of moisture, which is what your throat really needs to beat the cough! One final thing is a product by Vick's called Shower Soothers.Good luck!"

  1. I was actually searching this morning for a natural way to soothe my cough without suppressing it with meds. I love that this doesn't just soothe, but actually cleans the infection. My throat thanks you!

  2. I know a few people who are battling the flu and I'm hoping I won't get it this year. This recipe will be very helpful, though, whenever I need to fight "the bug." Thanks for sharing it.

  3. When I was young it was hot water and salt gargle for sore throats. This gargle would make my throat feel less painful afterward. Baking soda and honey added interesting!
